Z100: Is she dating Clay?
Kim: No
Z100: No. Nothing going on there?
Z100: I’m sure you realize, but I’m wondering how you feel about the fact that it’s not necessary to win this contest to be successful in the business. People like Tamyra Gray obviously are getting opportunities that they wouldn’t have gotten had they not been in the contest, so the fact that you’ve been eliminated doesn’t mean that this has to be a stop in your career. In fact, you’ve been exposed to the entire country. People know where your talent is.
Kim: Right. It’s very insane actually.
Z100: Yeah.
Kim: Where else but American Idol can you become, you know, a household name within a month or so.
Z100: Right.
Z100: Well, you were pulled out… were you a wild card?
Kim: Yes
Z100: You were uh…
Kim: Yes, I was. I was Randy’s.
Z100: So, is Randy gonna look after you now? So is somebody, Simon, somebody talking to you about a contract?
Kim: I hope so. I really hope so. Simon is Simon you know, but Randy. I love Randy and he’s my dawg. But at the same time, he’s really cool and I hope that maybe in the future we’ll get a chance to work together.
Z100: Right
Kim: That’ll be awesome.
Z100: We know for a fact from some people we know in the show, that work the show, run the show, that they really, really liked you. They really, really wanted you to stick around.
Kim: Who? The judges?
Z100: No, maybe…
Kim: Oh, just people?
Z100: No. The producers of the show. People that run the show, they really like you.
Kim: Oh, cool. *Laughs*
Z100: And they…
Kim: *Laughs*
Z100: They, they.. you know what…
Kim: That’s not what they told me. No, I’m just kidding. *Laughs*
Z100: Well, no, I mean…
*Kim is still laughing*
Z100: You were sort of a favorite of theirs from the very beginning.
Kim: Cool. *Laughs*
Z100: You haven’t been told this? No one’s ever told you these things?
Kim: I just, you know, I just do my job. I go in there and I sing.
Z100: Hmm
Kim: *Laughs*
Z100: But the other thing too, and I hope you think this in the right way, you actually do have "the package" that they look for when they talk about an American Idol.
Kim: Thank you!
Z100: I mean, you’re talented, you’re attractive.
Kim: I try to think so. I try to collaborate everything.
Z100: But apparently this time around in American Idol, the whole package isn’t the whole thing anymore.
Kim: Yeah.
Z100: You know, I think that now they are looking for just the person who has maybe the most outstanding talent out of this group, because when you look at people like Ruben or Clay…
Kim: Well, I think the stereotypical "beauty " as you would say from America is just not the same anymore, you know? They’re seeing beauty in different ways. Like Ruben, I think is very handsome.
Z100: He’s adorable!
Kim: He’s absolutely precious!
Z100: He’s something that shines through. Last night, when Ruben was singing, that big smile on his face…
Kim: I know! I love his dimples so much. I used to always go up to him and poke his dimples.
Z100: Watch the Tivo from last night’s show. You gotta see how Ruben looked. He looked great.
Kim: Oh, I can’t wait to watch it. I feel so bad that I didn’t get a chance to watch it.
Z100: What beautiful teeth he has! *Laughs*
Kim: Oh yeah. I mean, I’m telling you, he is absolutely precious, and when he laughs, it is such a genuine laugh that you, I mean, you fall in love with him, so I can’t even imagine how America feels.
Z100: So, hopefully "the package" that John Bell is talking about is shifting, it’s changing. .
Kim: Exactly! I mean, I don’t think that the stereotypical "beauty" image should be portrayed as "you’re this weight" and "you look this way", and "you have this long of hair" and "you do this." I truly think that beauty comes from inside and if you can portray that from inside and still let America love you… I feel that it is an incredible trait.
Z100: Something interesting that Simon said. I know, it’s Simon, but I’ve gotta be honest. As rude and cruel as he can be to some of these contestants, he does say a lot of honest things.
Kim: He’s honest, yes.
Z100: And you may not agree with it, but what he said about you is… Did you hear what he said about you?
Kim: I can work at Six Flags, and I’m so excited about that because they get paid a lot.
*Everyone Laughs*
Z100: Well, Kimberly, but he also said…
Simon’s Voice: "Girls just don’t like her."
Z100: Girls just don’t like her.
Kim: Yeah…
Z100: Why did he say that?
Kim; I don’t know. Who cares what Simon says?
Z100: *Laughs*
Kim: I’m sorry.
Z100: Do you remember in the beginning of the whole thing, you had that fight with Julia DeMato?
Kim: Yes!
Z100: And it was on television.
Kim: And Julia came and stayed with me last night. I’m in New York for only like two days.
Z100: Which is weird, but do you think that that had anything to do with the fact that people may not like you?
Kim: I mean, it was totally portrayed differently than it actually happened. Of course, it’s reality TV, what do you expect? But there’s editing involved, and all that fun stuff. You know, what can I do? You can’t please everybody.
Z100: And you can’t go back.
Kim: Right! Exactly! You can’t go back, so I just tried to not really think about it, and some people portrayed it in a different way, and some people portrayed it as a good thing that I can do it like that.
Z100: Kimberly Caldwell is here. Lot of phones. Do you mind if we go to phones real quick?
Kim: No, I’d love to. I wish I could pick them all up and talk to everybody.
Z100: Well, let’s do that. We’ll pick them all up at the same time.
Kim: You guys, call in! Call in!
Z100: Good morning Raquel! You’re on with Kimberly Caldwell. How are you doing?
Raquel: I’m fine. How are you? Hi Kimberly!
Kim: Hi Raquel! How are you?
Raquel: How are you? I just wanted to tell you, first of all, I want to say good morning to everybody at Z100.
All of Z100: Hi Raquel!
Kim: That’s so nice of you! Where are you headed?
Raquel: I’m actually from Pennsylvania, but I work in New Jersey. I work in Hackensack, New Jersey, and I just want to tell you girl, we miss you so much!
Kim: Thank you so much! I appreciate it. I miss being there.
Raquel: I am so angry. I am so angry that you are not there.
Kim: Oh, don’t be angry! Don’t be angry!
Z100: She’s mad at America dammit!
*Kim Laughs*
Z100: Raquel, thank you for your call. Good morning Elizabeth. You’re on with Kimberly Caldwell on Z100.
Kim: Hi Elizabeth:! How’re you doing?
Elizabeth: Hey Kimberly! I’m fine, how are you?
Kim: Good, how are you? I love all of your accents. All y’alls accents.
*Everyone laughs*
Kim: I was gonna say y’all but then I caught myself.
Z100: Yeah, like you don’t have the accent.
Kim: I love all y’alls accents.
Elizabeth: Yeah, you don’t have an accent.
Z100: So, what do you want to say to Kimberly, Elizabeth?
Elizabeth: I wanted to tell you how wonderful you were. I voted for you so much that night!
Kim: Oh, thank you so much!
Elizabeth: And I’m so pissed off!
Kim: *Laughs* Oh, she just straight on said "I am pissed!" *Laughs*
Z100: Yeah, let me give you the accent. She’s pissed owwwff!
Kim: Yeah, she’s pissed owwwwfffff, ya know?
*Everyone laughs*
Kim: Thank you Elizabeth.
Z100: So, what’s your question for Kimberly, Elizabeth?
Elizabeth: I wanted to ask you, just cause I think you would be awesome at this. I wanted to know if you ever considered like Broadway singing?
Kim: Umm… you know what. I never have before, and I went home and one of my best friends was like "you should be on Broadway!" and I was like "what are you walking about? BROADWAY?"
Elizabeth: You’re so awesome live! You move the stage, you work the crowd…
Kim: Thank you so much! It’s definitely ummm… *long pause* something I’ll take into consideration.
Z100: Well all right Elizabeth. Thank you for your call.
Kim: Thank you Elizabeth!
Z100: Good morning Keisha from the Bronx! Up the the boogie-down Bronx, you’re on with Kimberly Caldwell.
Kim: What’s up Keisha?
Keisha: Good morning Z100! Good morning Kimberly!
Z100: Good morning!
Kim: How ya’ doing girl?
Keisha: I want you to know that I literally sat there that night and I voted for you 100 times.
Kim: See! Girls do like me! I don’t care what Simon says!
*Everyone laughs*
Z100: Well, she’s from the Bronx. They’re different up there.
Kim: Yeah! Keisha knows how we lay it down!
Keisha: I think you are so beautiful! Every night I saw you, you looked so different, and you always looked beautiful, and I think that even though you’re not on there anymore, I’m 101% sure that you’re either gonna be in modeling, you’re gonna be in acting, you’re gonna be in singing. You’re gonna do something because you totally deserve it! You can see that she works on it!
Kim: Thank you! You are precious! Come on in to the radio station and hang out with me! *Laughs*
Keisha: I’m a woman. I’m a woman and I rooted for you. I want you to know that I was rooting for you.
Kim: Thank you so much. That’s so nice!
Z100: She could be your agent.
Kim: *Laughs* I know!
Z100: Wow! Listen to that!
*Everyone laughs*
Z100: Thank you Keisha. Doreen on Line 11!
Kim: Thank you Keisha!
Z100: You’re on with Kimberly…
Doreen: Hey Kimberly!
Kim: Hi!
Z100: Alright. Talent aside, you have some personal things you want to get out there.
Kim: Uh oh. Getting down and dirty.
Z100: What’s your question Doreen?
Doreen: I love your hair! You’ve got really good hair.
Kim: Thanks. Not this morning, I promise. *Laughs*
Doreen: I wanted to know if you are still dating JD.
Kim: I am!
Doreen: Is it all good? *Laughs*
Kim: Yes, it’s all good. He’s precious and wonderful, in LA right now *sad voice* without me! And it’s so sad, but it’s ok. We’ll hopefully be together soon. Maybe we’ll take a vacation. We may go to Vegas actually.
Doreen: We love you Kimberly!
Kim: We love you too!
Doreen: *Laughs*
Z100: Alright Doreen, thank you for your call.
Kim: Thanks!
Z100: You found love through American Idol.
Kim: I actually did. And if I get nothing else from it, which I’ve gotten a lot of things; experience, exposure, all that fun stuff.
Z100: What, with JD…
Kim: Yes!
Z100: Or with the music?
Kim: Yeah! *Laughs*
Z100: That too. Experience and exposure.
Kim: *Laughs* Next subject! *Laughs*
Z100: Alright. Uh… our own Greg T, the round-headed frat boy who by the way is out there hanging with Madonna today at Tower Records, she’s in town. I’m sure you’re a Madonna fan.
Kim: Uh, of course! Everybody is.
Z100: You’re on with Kimberly, Roundhead.
Roundhead: Kimberly, baby, how ya doin’?
Kim: Hello darling!
Roundhead: Hey, so what are our plans for this afternoon? Where are we hanging out, me and you?
*Everyone laughs*
Kim: Uh…
Z100: Dream on. Alright, enough of that.
Kim: *Laughs*
Z100: So, listen, thanks you for coming here today.
Kim: Anyway, you’re paying.
Z100: Yeah, well, then… that date is over.
*Everyone laughs*
Z100: So, you have a busy day? Are we going to see you on TV today? What are you up to today?
Kim: Oh gosh. Ask Alex, my publicist. She’s like "Ok, just be here at 5:30 and then we have 400 things to do."
Z100: Good for you.
Kim: Yes.
Z100: Well, listen.
Kim: So, I will be on TRL today, at I believe 4 o’clock, which is, I wrote down right before the auditions, I wrote down everything that I wanted to do within the next 5 years, and being on TRL was one of them.
Z100: Really?
Kim: Yes.
Z100: So, that’s done. Check it off.
Kim: Yeah, I know. I’m totally excited.
Z100: What else is on your list? Kimberly, what else is on your list of things you want to do within the next five years?
Kim: Finding a really great guy. I did that.
Z100: Alright. Cool.
Kim: Getting a lot of exposure. I did that.
Z100: Right.
Kim: And meeting Ruben Studdard. And I did that too.
*Everyone laughs*
Z100: So, you have nothing else to live for!
Kim: Yeah! I know! I know! I’m all good now. If I die tomorrow, I’m happy.
Z100: Alright, before we push you out the door, any more questions for Kimberly? I know you guys have a lot of things you want to talk to her about.
Z100: I just feel bad you had to leave that damn house.
Kim; Oh. *Laughs*
Z100: Man, that house is nice!
Kim: Wasn’t it fabulous?
Z100: Oh my goodness.
Kim: Yeah, it was a really fabulous house. But at the same time, now I get my own little personal private time.
Z100: Yeah, you’ll get your own house one day, don’t worry about it.
Kim: Cool. You never know, I hope so.
Z100: Yeah, Christine?
Christine: I just want to get into the "behind the scenes" again. Like how much time do you guys have to choose a song? I know its every single week, so…
Kim: None.
Christine: Yeah. So there’s a lot of pressure.
Kim: Literally, the next day after somebody gets eliminated, we sit down and they are like "OK. Here’s the list of songs. You have 20 minutes. Pick a song." And you’re like *Gasp*
Christine: Yeah, that’s pretty tight.
Kim: You know, and if you pick the wrong song, you don’t even know.
Christine: Right.
Kim: You do your best to just choose whatever you’re gonna feel comfortable with, and then just go for it.
Christine: And did you spend any time with Simon, Paula, Randy, out side, or do you just see them when you are performing?
Kim: Yeah, during the performance show days and stuff, Paula would come in and she gave us these really cute necklaces that have a little saying and a charm on them. And she gave us those, and we got to spend a few minutes with her. We got to see Randy here and there.
Christine: Right.
Kim: But we didn’t get to spend a lot of time with them or anything. They were our judges, so I don’t think that they wanted us to mingle too much.
Z100: Right.
Christine: Yeah.
Z100: Kimberly, any predictions to who is going to be asked to leave tonight?
Kim: Oh gosh…
Z100: You’re not going to do that, are you?
Kim: No, no.
Christine: How about who is going to win?
*Cheering*
Kim: Roo-ben! I think that Ruben will probably pull through in the end. I really hope that he does. He totally deserves it. He has undeniable talent.
Z100: What about last season? Will there be a finalist tour?
Kim: Yes. There will be. I believe so. I think that was actually confirmed yesterday, but I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it.
Christine: Ryan announced it last night.
Kim: Oh, ok. Yes! I’m going on tour! *Laughs* And that was on my list too., so I get to check that off.
*Everybody laughs*
Z100: You should watch the show. Maybe you could find out what you’re doing tomorrow.
Kim; yeah, I know.
Z100: Really?
Kim: I’ve just been so busy! You don’t understand; it’s crazy.
Z100: Well, in our predictions, who may be voted off tonight?
Kim: What do you guys think?
Z100: Voted off tonight?
Kim: Who do you think is going to win?
Christine: Ruben!
Kim: Ruben!
Z100: I think Ruben’s gonna do it.
Kim: Everybody says Ruben, huh? All right.
Christine: Yeah. He’s gonna edge out Clay.
Z100: I think Clay may be second. I don’t know.
Christine: Yeah.
Z100: Last night, Randy, the dawg, talking about Carmen. This is what you missed. This is what he said…
Kim: I heard. I don’t want to hear it. It makes me upset.
Randy’s Voice: "So, listen. This is the search for the next ‘would-be’ superstar. We’re trying to find the best in America. I don’t think you’re even close."
*Booing*
Z100: Wow.
Randy’s Voice: "Not even close."
Christine: I love the way everybody boos.
Z100: That’s so uncharacteristic for Randy too, and…
Kim: I know! That doesn’t sound like him at all!
Christine: Two weeks in a row… pretty harsh.
Kim: He just misses me.
*Everyone laughs*
Christine: When they do that, how do you keep yourself together? If Simon’s saying something nasty to you, and you’re on televison?
Kim: I don’t listen.
Christine: Yeah.
Z100: Yeah?
Kim: Yeah. I just smile and nod.
Z100: Oh. That makes sense.
*Everyone laughs*
Z100: Well, I mean, you know…
Kim: No, I do. If it’s constructive criticism, of course I try to take it into consideration, but if Simon’s just doing his job and trying to be as nasty as possible, it’s like an in one ear and out the other kind-of thing.
Z100: Right. Kimberly, thanks for coming by.
Kim: It was so incredible to be here. I wish I could stay all day.
Z100: Next time you come by, you’ll have your own CD. We’ll be playing it on Z100.
Kim: YAY!
Z100: Which by the way is not a bad station to hear your music on *Laughs*
Kim: I’m very excited to be here. Thanks so much for having me.
Z100: The Early Show, CNN, TRL, Fox News Live, just a few stops on your tour in New York. And I hope you get some shopping in and have a good time, OK?
Kim: Yeah right.
*Everyone laughs*
Z100: Kimberly Caldwell on Z100!
Kim: Thank you so much! It was such a pleasure to be here! Thanks guys.
Z100: Thank you for coming in.
