As their smash summer tour comes to an end, the American Idols give Us an exclusive look inside their busy, busy world

"I'm tired of meet-and-greet. I want to go eat some meat," raps Ruben Studdard, 24. Carmen Rasmusen, 18, is next: "I am tired of meet-and-greets today, 'cause all they want to see is Clay." Everyone laughs - no one louder than booming Ruben. It's August 26 at the KeyArena at Seattle Center, three hours before showtime, and this is the silliness of American Idols Live: nine singers from the Fox reality series, 41 shows, 25 states, 55 days and, before it ended on August 31, more than 100,000 satisfied fans. Now the stars - Ruben; Clay Aiken, 24; Kimberley Locke, 25; Julia DeMato, 24; Kimberly Caldwell, 21; Charles Grigsby, 25; Rickey Smith, 23; and Trenyce, 23 - want a breather. "I am going to take three days off. I want to go to Puerto Rico," Ruben says. "I can't wait, man." Before and after each concert, the Idols meet with fans to field marriage proposals, listen to renditions of their hits and autograph many a strange thing - like bald heads, bare breasts, a diaper and even a Ford Mustang!
